Right, so after a long and ardous internet campaign to find something on the original work done by Andy Akman (the Writer/Artist and Creator of the character) , I finally happened on this piece done several years ago by S. Dutton. I think it’s brilliant and quite frankly I lived through part of what- I’d have to say- turns out (in part) to be a anecdote on the history of Naija. So here it is…the Capt. Africa strips from the global Gazette, with original strips by Andy Akman and S. Dutton. It’s a shame that I couldn’t find anymore strips, but it’s still great. Enjoy! Oh, if you want a copy of the PDF for the entire Global Gazette issue (Which includes a rather lengthy write-up by S. Dutton on his relations with a Nigerian named Francis, with whom he had a 8 year correspondence with until about 1997), you can email me at: comicbanditpress@gmail.com These weren’t easy to find! You can also check out more of Mr. Dutton’s work HERE!

The Elephant and The Grass is a survival adventure story by Alaba Onajin and is about a group of children caught in a civil conflict in Africa. Captured to be trained as child soldiers for the insurgent army we follow them through their trials and tribulations as they attempt a daring escape to safety. The graphic novel is about 200 pages is currently in the works. Synopsis: For a young African village boy named Ayo, life couldn’t be simpler, surrounded by love from his family and friends until his village was razed by gunmen who lay waste to all and take him, together with a handful of children as captives to be trained as mindless child soldiers for a revolutionary cause. Words cannot describe their experiences as they are trained and dehumanized. But hope comes in form of a radio broadcast they overhear relayed by a peace-keeping support group, of a refugee camp where survivors caught in the conflict are instructed to escape to.
Been a while since I’ve been on here. Been a lil hectic managing this, the facebook page as well as working on projects for 2013 and then preparing for the Lagos ComicCon 2012. As usual- down here- things didn’t go exactly to plan, but we still managed to have a great ComicCon and fans of comics and animation came out for Nigeria’s first ever (successful) Comiccon. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to enjoy the event as much as I would have liked to, had my own table to be at and other stuff to manage. But the turnout and response for all publishers and media companies present was very inspsiring. So, now that things are winding down a little as we come to the end of the year, I thought I’d feature a little of what happened at the ComicCon on here (Finally). And what better way to do it, than with this rather amateur video I put together after hijacking a friend’s ComicCon experience, when he showed up with his camera.
